IMCP 2008 ~ The unique exotic Borneo experience

 
Introduction

Following the overwhelming success and favorable feedback from participants of the inaugural International "Muhibah" Challenge Programme (IMCP) held in 2002, Outward Bound Sabah (OBS) is pleased to offer the second IMCP to be held in Sabah, Malaysia from 16th to 30th October 2008.

Whilst the main objective of this 15 days programme remains the same, the contents have been revamped to make the programme more exciting, challenging and educational.

Participants will be able to see and learn more about Sabah especially the land, its people and their culture and traditions. The programme provides the unique opportunity for participants to scale the highest mountain in South East Asia, the majestic Mount Kinabalu (a world heritage), and trek through dense tropical jungle, stay in a traditional Murut (headhunters in the past) Longhouse, gazing at the horizon from the northern most tip of the island of Borneo, white water rafting, sailing on the South China Sea in a whaler and camping in one of the many pristine islands that Sabah has to offer. Truly an experience of a lifetime.

Participants from all over the world who will be attending this richly rewarding programme will pool their resources and do some community projects in a remote village in Sabah to benefit the villagers.

Who is eligible to apply? Male or female of the age 18 - 30 years old who are physically and medically healthy, non-smokers and a non-drinkers who loves the nature and its adventure, keen to discover new skills and meet new friends. 

 

Course Fee Participants will be charged a nominal package fee of US$ 750/- if full payment is made before 15th of July 2008 (Early Bird Fee)

US$ 1,000/- if full payment is received after 15th of July 2008 

The package fee covers the following expenses

  • Use of all equipment and facilities required during the programme
  • Accommodation from 15th October to 31st October 2008
  • All meals and rations from 15th October to 31st October 2008
  • Airport transfer
  • Insurance coverage
  • T shirt and cap
  • Certificate of attendance
  • Climbing permits and other expenses connected with mount Kinabalu climb
  • Entrance fee to all parks
  • Overnight stay at the Murut Longhouse
  • Official reception on the last day of the course at a leading hotel

The special package DOES NOT INCLUDE the cost of travel to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Participants will have to make their own travel arrangement to Sabah. Travel Documents Participants from overseas must have valid travel documents and visa. Please check with the nearest Malaysian Embassy or consulate for latest information on visa requirement.
 

Programme Brief Itinerary

The group will meet at Kota Kinabalu International airport and proceed to Outward Bound centre in Kinarut, 25KM south of Kota Kinabalu city. The first day will focus on developing group spirit, sharing a mutual aspiration and setting goals.

The first expedition is sailing expedition to the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Upon arriving on this beautiful island, participants will get a chance to learn the rich biodiversity of the marine ecology.

Kota Kinabalu city challenge is next; it is an opportunity to learn about Sabah and its diverse ethnic people with its own unique culture.

The intense jungle trekking at Crocker Range will take the group to one of the remote villages. The expedition will take 4 days to complete.     

Expedition to the tip of Borneo; the northern part of Sabah is home to one of Sabah's more than 30 ethnic groups, the Rungus. A closer look at their lifestyle, culture and overnight in their traditional long house.

Community service project offer meaningful work at the home of the less fortunate and marginalized people. Through the  interaction whilst doing the project together will provide unique experience and setting a new perspective of life.

Finally coming closer to the end of the programme, the expedition to the top of Borneo Mount Kinabalu; the highest peak in South East Asia offer great final challenge.

Riding on waves of White Water is the perfect things to do to end a perfect journey. 

Moment of mixed emotions; sharing the best moment throughout the programme at the Farewell Party, successful participant will be rewarded with certificate.

Participants are required to submit their application form as soon as possible to the Executive Director of Outward Bound Sabah. Selection of qualified participants will be on 'First Come, First Serve' basis.
