OBS ACTIVITIES
Area of Operations:
The basic concept utilized at Outward Bound is
experiential learning
or learning through experience.
Participants take part in various activities
which initiate and enhance skills such as leadership, teamwork, and
communication. These activities are facilitated by Outward Bound Instructors
who ensure activities are adapted to fit the participants' capabilities to
maximize learning. As the experiences in Outward Bound are more vivid than
normal classroom lectures, participants have a higher retention and transfer
of the lessons learnt to working and personal life. This is a key strength
of all Outward Bound activities.
Our principle activities are expeditions involving jungle trekking, sailing and rowing in gaff rigged whalers at sea and canoeing in double kayaks in smooth rivers, plus occasional surfing. A section of the Kiulu River lends itself to white water rafting, for which we use inner tubes lashed together with split bamboos. We have a small climbing wall, challenging ropes courses and team dynamic problems. All activities are used as to improve experience and we also teach participants basic safety skills and measures.
We operate in the jungle in the Crocker Range, in
the Mount Kinabalu National Park, in the South China Sea, between Pulau
Tiga and Pulau Gaya, and for
rafting and canoeing on Papar River.
