Information For Prospective Volunteer Attachment 

Practical Information

We offer attachment for any individual who loves to share their experience to others and gain more experience. We have been constantly receiving volunteers from UK, Nederland, Australia and Germany. Many undergraduates from the local institutions also partake practical attachment at OBS.

Qualifications

  • Age: minimum 21 years old

  • Physical: healthy, non-smoking and active in sports

  • Academic: holding a Diploma or higher in any field of studies. However a strong passion in outdoor activity, the adventure and education are added advantage.   

  • Background: Single bachelor and never been convicted on any felony offence.

  • Holds any other outdoor qualifications eg. Bronze Medallion, Wilderness First Aid etc.

Terms

  • Deal: the UNPAID attachment assumes the volunteer will accept the experience, board and lodging as a fair exchange for the service.

  • Duration: period of 6 months to 1 year.

  • Probation and Training: you must undergo the Internal Qualification Training. During which performance must be satisfactory, otherwise OBS will have the right to terminate the arrangement.

  • Immigration issues: All immigration issue has to be settled by the applicant. However volunteer can use a normal visa issued at at the entry point.

  • Health: must submit a medical check attesting that you can practice strenuous activities in a tropical climate. You need to take your own immunization on malaria, dengue and hepatitis or anything which you need protection at your own expense.

  • Personal gear: The school will provide all technical equipment.

  • Personal insurance: All volunteer must get insurance from their host country. This package DOES NOT COVER medical expenses, hospitalization and repatriation.

  • Outward Bound regulations of no smoking, no alcohol AND NO non prescribed drugs must be adhered to.

  • Transportation: the school is 25 km south from KK on the main coastal road. Plenty of cheap minibuses use the route and during your stay it will be easy for you to go to town.
